Steve Jobs returned to Apple in 1997 following the NeXT acquisition and was officially named interim CEO in September of that year, later dropping the "interim" title. Under his leadership, Apple went from near bankruptcy to becoming the world's most valuable company, introducing transformative products including the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad. Jobs resigned as CEO on August 24, 2011, due to health issues related to pancreatic cancer, recommending Tim Cook as his successor. He passed away on October 5, 2011.
